Merhabalar,
Association of Turkish Americans of Southern
California (ATASC), a nonprofit cultural,
educational, and social organization, is beginning
the new year under new leadership with aspiration to
expand its membership base and unite the much
widespread community in Southern California. By the
end of 2008, it is our goal to reach out to the
majority of the Turkish-Americans and friends of
Turks living throughout Southern California.
Currently, ATASC organization has three regional
chapters that service our community in Los Angeles
through LATAA, in Orange County through OCTAA, and
in San Diego region through ATASC-San Diego as well
as a philanthropic organization, TALL, which
includes members from many regions in Southern
California. Through the establishment of these
chapter organizations, we have been able to reach
out to nearly 700+ current members in these areas.
Collectively, ATASC and its chapters have been able
to organize nearly 100 social, educational, and
charitable events throughout Southern California
during the past 2-3 years enjoyed by many of our
community members. Through our organizations
efforts, we have been able to donate thousands of
dollars to local charities as well as to schools and
educational projects in our homeland Turkey.
Does forming new chapters mean ATASC is weakening
or breaking apart?
We believe that fostering chapters in new and
needed areas will benefit the greater
Turkish-American community by organizing events near
where large groups of Turkish-Americans live. This
will allow our community members to take part in
many cultural, social, educational, and charitable
activities in their areas while connecting all of
our chapters under a single vision provided by the
central organization ATASC. Thus, we will achieve a
unified Turkish-American community spread throughout
a large geographical area.
We would like to encourage the establishment of
new regional chapters which can service the
special needs of our communities in Santa Barbara,
Ventura, Simi Valley, San Bernardino, Riverside, and
Inland Empire or wherever a strong coalition of
Turks is needed. We invite leaders from these areas
to form a wider membership network which will
benefit our greater community.
The central organization, ATASC, will provide
communication, accounting services, liability
insurance for events and activities, and tax
preparation services for our component
organizations. We intend to respond to your
specific needs and guide you through the
documentation process to successfully form the
chapter organizations. It is our goal to make sure
that each chapter operates smoothly and in a uniform
manner by providing close communications between all
chapters and proper documentation.
We look forward to hearing from you with your ideas
to expand into areas where we currently have no
representation. Please contact me directly if you
are interested in taking leadership in your
respective areas to establish a new ATASC Chapter.
