House of Turkey Project is
dedicated to establishing and maintaining a house in the
International Cottage area in Balboa Park, San Diego.
This house will be a location, where we, as the Turkish
Community in San Diego, can display the
diversity and richness of the Turkish culture, country,
and its people. Through international relations,
cultural activities, and social events we will sponsor a
better understanding of the Turkish way of life.
Thousands
of people from various nationalities visit the Balboa Park
every year. All International Cottages in the Balboa
Park operate under the parent organization, House of
Pacific Relations (HPR). To comply with the HPR
regulations, a separate board of directors has
been established for the House of Turkey Project.
Currently there are 26 national and four affiliate groups
under the HPR. The 17 countries that currently have
cottages are furnished and staffed by their respective
group members, and they offer a delightful window to each
country's culture, history, and traditions.
The House
of Turkey Project's short-term objectives are to
participate in the "Lawn Programs", by featuring Turkish
folkloric songs and dances, arts, and crafts, as well as
serving traditional food and drinks in other special
events, such as the Ethnic Food Fair and December Nights.
Our longer term goal however, is to raise the necessary
funds to cover the costs for the construction and inside
decoration of the future House of Turkey. In this
regard, ATASC-San Diego Chapter has been organizing
fundraiser events as part of our annual events lineup to
benefit our future House of Turkey.
Many thanks
to all of you for continuously showing your appreciation
and trust, making generous donations for our common causes
of promoting the "Turkish Way".
